PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTIC

Quirino Province lies in the southeastern portion of Cagayan Valley (Region II), approximately between 15° 54.8’ to 16° 38.6’ W latitude and 121° 00’ to 122° 02’ N longitude. It is situated within the Upper Cagayan River Basin bounded by Isabela on the north, Aurora on the east and southeast and Nueva Vizcaya on the west and southwest. The Sierra Madre mountain range provides a natural barrier on the eastern and southeastern border and Mamparang range on the western part of the province.


Land Area

Quirino occupies a total land area of 305,718 hectares more or less which is approximately 11.75% of the Total Regional Land Area or 1.02% of the Philippines’ Land Area.

Topography

The province is generally mountainous; about 80% of the total land area is covered by mountains and highlands. The major topographic features of the province are series of connecting mountains. The Sierra Madre Mountain range provides a natural barrier on the eastern and southwestern part of the province. Most of the levels to undulating areas of the province are located on the northern municipalities of Diffun, Saguday, Cabarroguis and Aglipay and parts of Maddela and Nagtipunan.
